9600 Stories

9600 Stories takes its name from Breckenridge's elevation and bills itself as the highest-elevation bookstore in the United States. It carries the torch in the longtime bookstore space at 326 S Main, known for roughly two decades as Ole Man Berkins before its rebrand under new women and veteran ownership.

The shop sells new and used books for all ages, with strong sections for local authors, Colorado history, hiking guides and children's literature — and since Breck Books closed, it's the only dedicated bookstore in downtown Breckenridge.

It earns its keep as a community space too, hosting book signings, community gatherings and a running Dungeons & Dragons program. Stop in before a hike for a trail guide, or after one for something to read by the fire.
