SustainableBreck
SustainableBreck is the Town of Breckenridge's official sustainability program, adopted by Town Council in 2022 as a community-wide, ten-year plan spanning five categories: climate action, energy, water, mobility and materials management.
The targets are concrete: 100% renewable electricity for municipal facilities by 2025, 100% renewable energy community-wide by 2035, and 40% waste reduction and diversion by 2025. Progress is already visible around town — municipal facilities run on 63% renewable electricity, five all-electric Free Ride buses circulate, and 44 public EV charging ports are in service. The town also protects more than 4,800 acres of open space for wildlife habitat, recreation and carbon sequestration.
Visitors can plug in directly: ride the electric Free Ride buses instead of driving, carry a Breck Reusable Bag, and watch for the program's zero-waste events through the seasons.
