Reiling Dredge Trail
The Reiling Dredge, built in 1908, was the eighth gold dredge to work the Breckenridge district. It chewed up the French Creek valley floor until 1922, when it sank in its own pond — where its timber hull and superstructure still sit today, one of the few visible dredge wrecks in Colorado. The Town of Breckenridge Open Space Division, Summit County, and the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance stabilized the wreck in 2018 with State Historical Fund money.
The walk from the B&B Trailhead on French Gulch Road is an easy, green-rated round trip of about 2 miles (60-80 minutes), crossing dredge tailing fields that show how thoroughly the valley was turned over for gold. Interpretive signs explain dredge-boat mining technology, and the surrounding open space links to the Sallie Barber, Minnie Mine, and Turk's trail network.
The trail is open year-round and snowshoe-friendly in winter. ADA-designated parking on the west side of French Gulch Road puts the dredge viewing area about 800 feet away. View the dredge from the platform — never climb on it.
