Leadville Railroad

Leadville Railroad has been a trusted name in Colorado's tourism industry since 1988. The railroad offers historic scenic train rides departing from downtown Leadville, with passengers riding in vintage passenger cars behind a historic diesel locomotive through the San Isabel National Forest and stunning Colorado scenery at 10,152 feet. The train leaves from downtown Leadville and heads north for a few miles, then stops for a few minutes and heads back.

Riders can choose from open cars, covered cars, and covered cars with windows, plus an optional caboose. The route showcases the Upper Arkansas River Valley, with views of Colorado's two tallest peaks (Mt. Elbert and Mt.

Massive) and towering evergreens and aspen trees. Conductors narrate the colorful history of the area, sharing stories about Leadville's silver mining heyday in the late 1800s when it earned the nickname "Cloud City," as well as notable historical figures and the impact of railroading on the region. The railroad specializes in creating unforgettable family adventures and offers a relaxing way to see the countryside without hiking.

They are pet-friendly during spring, summer, and fall rides. The railroad is the last remaining section of the original Denver South Park & Pacific Railroad, which was completed in 1884.
