River and Woods

River and Woods serves Colorado Comfort Cuisine from a historic cabin on Pearl Street since September 2016. The little wood-framed cottage at 2328 Pearl Street was built in 1920 and for nearly forty years was home to John's Restaurant — opened by John Bizzarro in 1975 and beloved as one of Boulder's first fine-dining institutions until it closed in 2013. After sitting quiet for a few years, owners Kate and Josh Dinar and Chef Daniel Asher opened River and Woods with an idea to elevate comfort food into a comfort cuisine all its own, distinctly Colorado.

The name is borrowed from Lydia Maria Child's poem "Thanksgiving Day" — a poem about going home for a family meal. Set inside the historic miner's cabin with original hand-hewn timbers and century-old beams, and featuring a tucked-away backyard with mature trees and a pergola, the space offers a rare blend of cozy charm and quiet magic. The team works with farms and producers across Colorado, and most of what's on your plate comes from someone they know personally.
