Butterfly Pavilion

The flagship Wings of the Tropics conservatory is home to more than 1,800 free-flying butterflies year-round, representing over 200 species from around the world. Visitors encounter diverse exhibits including the Colorado Backyard, an immersive indoor playground featuring Colorado wildlife; Survival, home to Rosie the tarantula and other arthropods; Chrysalis Chamber, where butterflies emerge from chrysalises in real time; Legacies: Invertebrates of Mexico, exploring invertebrates' role in art, cuisine, and ecology; and the newly renovated Water's Edge aquatic gallery.

Nature Play encourages children to discover how to play in natural spaces safely. Beyond exhibits, the Pavilion offers live animal encounters like the Behind the Web Tarantula Encounter with Goldie the Golden Knee Tarantula, zookeeper talks, scavenger hunts, and educational programs. Every day, staff and volunteers work to bring guests face-to-face with incredible invertebrates, sharing the true, amazing stories of creatures that sustain our planet, reduce symptoms of mental illness, and provide inspiration for engineering, medicine, and art.
