Chautauqua
The Colorado Chautauqua is considered THE western representation of the “chautauqua movement” that swept the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is the only chautauqua west of the Mississippi that has continuously operated with its original structures intact, largely used for their original purposes. Located at the base of the Flatirons, the Colorado Chautauqua is one of only 28 National Historic Landmarks in the state of Colorado and one of the few remaining chautauquas in the United States. Now in its second century, the Colorado Chautauqua attracts over one million visitors each year while remaining committed to its historic purpose. We offer outstanding musical, arts and educational programs, charming accommodations in our historic cottages and lodges, indoor and outdoor meeting space, wedding and celebration venues, coffee, ice cream and shopping at our very own General Store, fine dining at the historic Dining Hall, and direct access to 40 miles of trails and thousands of acres of open space. Lodging Chautauqua’s charming collection of historic cottages and lodges are nestled beneath the iconic Boulder Flatirons. The cottages were constructed between 1899 and 1954 to replace the tents used during Chautauqua’s first summer season. Chautauqua is one of only two National Historic Landmarks in Colorado that offer public lodging. We do our best to help you relax and unplug with no tempting TVs or phones, but for guests needing to stay connected, complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the park. Meanwhile, enjoy the great outdoors with front door access to over 40 miles of open space hiking trails or take in the sunrise and sunset from your porch. Just a 15-minute drive or leisurely walk to the renowned Pearl Street Mall and University of Colorado campus, the Colorado Chautauqua offers year-round cultural programming, a full-service Dining Hall, and a charming General Store where you can pick up a hot coffee, ice cream, and gifts. Events Built in 1898 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, the Auditorium’s lofty, open architecture is from another era and the incredible acoustics keep the music real. In Colorado’s chillier months, you will find concerts, speakers, and panels in the intimate setting of our 1918 Community House. UPCOMING EVENTS Experiences Chautauqua has offered the best in recreational, artistic, and educational activities for over 125 years. Join us for retreats, classical and popular musical performances, film screenings, community festivals, educational talks and more! The main attraction, of course, is the great outdoors – with more than 40 miles of hiking trails to explore, along with Chautauqua’s historic park-like campus with formal gardens and a new, Flatirons themed, playground for kids of all ages. Get Involved Ways To Give The Colorado Chautauqua offers donors, visitors, guests and patrons countless ways to feel part of our mission and contribute. From buying memberships and gift certificates to ordering commemorative bricks and joining our tree stewards program, you will find a giving option that reflects your interests and Chautauqua connection. Other giving options include individual and business contributions, matching gifts, planned giving and corporate sponsorships. The Peoples' Crossing Trailhead
The Peoples' Crossing Trailhead provides access to the network of Red Rocks Trails. These trails climb up into ochre-colored sandstone spires and formations. From the summit, you'll have a beautiful view of the city of Boulder below. Previously named Settler's Park, the new name for the trailhead was developed by representatives from federally recognized American Indian Tribes. This new name is the result of community members who created Boulder’s Indigenous Peoples Day Resolution and guidance American Indian Tribal Nation representatives. The Peoples’ Crossing Park holds deep historical value, with the area believed to be where Hinono’ei neecee (Arapaho) and other indigenous peoples once traversed the landscape. By renaming the park to honor the rich history of the land, Boulder acknowledges the importance of the indigenous communities and their connection to the area. One of the highlights of The Peoples’ Crossing Park is the extensive network of trails that wind through its picturesque landscape. The park’s trailhead provides access to the Red Rocks Trails, leading visitors on a journey through ochre-colored sandstone spires and formations. Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse
In 1987, during his first visit to Boulder, Mayor Maksud Ikramov announced that Dushanbe planned to present our city with a Teahouse to celebrate the establishment of sister city ties. From 1987 -1990, more than 40 artisans in several cities of Tajikistan created the decorative elements our Teahouse, including its hand-carved and hand-painted ceiling, tables, stools, columns, and exterior ceramic panels. Often these skills are handed down from generation to generation within families. Lado Shanidze served as chief architect. Our Teahouse accurately reflects this artistic tradition that dates back nearly 2,000 years. The master woodcarvers, including Manon Khaidarov and Mirpulat Mirakhmatov who helped reassemble the Teahouse here, have carved their names in the ceiling. The Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse would not have been possible without the continued support of the Boulder-Dushanbe Sister Cities Project. Boulder-Dushanbe Sister Cities is a non-political, all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization (incorporated as a 501(c)(3) corporation under U.S. tax laws). Membership is open to anyone sharing our goal of friendship, understanding and communication between the peoples of the United States and Tajikistan. To Learn More about BDSC visit HERE. Nude Foods Market
