Hotel La Fonda de Taos

Looking for Taos, NM hotels near the plaza? Even better, Hotel La Fonda de Taos is the only hotel on Taos Plaza. Nestled on the west side of the Sangre de Cristo Mountain range, our hotel dates back to the time when Spanish settlers first arrived here 500 years ago. In 1820 the first “la fonda” (Spanish for “the inn”) was opened in the form of a mercantile store that also rented rooms; this same location is where you can find our hotel today.

With over a century of colorful history, we are the only hotel on Taos Plaza and now offer the most elegant Taos vacation options in town. Everything the historic district offers is right outside our property: dining, shopping, galleries, museums, theater, and a multitude of historic sites and attractions. Plus enjoy our on-site Noula’s Coffee Shop.

Our building was recently renovated with a concern for architectural integrity while focusing on the 21st-century traveler’s standards of comfort. Rooms here provide the best in deluxe accommodations with luxury linens, hand-tiled bathrooms, in-room Internet access, and cozy fireplaces in many rooms.

Accomodations

We feature beautifully decorated rooms, suites, and a luxurious penthouse! Our accommodations feature exceptional amenities such as a fireplace or Kiva, pillow-top mattresses, and comfortable bedding. As a historic hotel, each room is configured differently, and all rooms and suites have their own special charm and individual character. While an elevator provides access to the second floor, please note that many rooms require navigating stairs.
