About

Green Destinations International leads the world’s largest community of destinations committed to sustainability, supported by more than 50 program partners around the world. Its goal is to support destinations and businesses in improving quality and sustainability.

Green Destinations consists of two legal entities: Green Destinations Foundation, and the Good Travel Institute. The Foundation's Certification Body operates independently as an impartial conformity assessment body and is solely responsible for independent certification decisions. The Institute supports tourism companies and destinations in improving sustainability performance and promotion. It certifies companies and events, and it evaluates destinations and their travel offer on positive impact.

Good Travel Seal Certification

Good Travel Seal is an independent sustainability certification for tourism businesses, designed to help businesses communicate their environmental and social performance credibly, transparently, and in line with European regulatory expectations. It certifies that a tourism business complies with clearly defined sustainability requirements and is entitled to use a recognized sustainability label, based on independent third-party verification. By choosing the Good Travel Seal, tourism businesses demonstrate sustainability performance that can be trusted by consumers, partners, and regulators.

Good Travel Scan

Good Travel Scan encourages medium and small family-run enterprises (SMEs) that have no previous knowledge or experience in sustainability management to take a first step in the right direction.

The Good Travel Scan is based upon 10 universal values in tourism sustainability. You start with a self-assessment survey with 27 questions related to key elements of the Good Travel Standard and the GSTC Criteria. It helps you to evaluate where you stand in the sustainability journey and immediately gives you a score. In case of sufficient results (50% or more) you can apply for a Green Destinations Good Travel Scan recognition. This is obtained by paying a small fee and completing an interactive evaluation by one of our experts. You will receive a recognition document and a summary of the results of this evaluation.

GoGood Stewardship Scan is based directly on the Good Travel Scan and provides an easy first-step toward robust quantitative certification programs including Good Travel Seal, B-Corp, Green Key Global, and other local certifications like Colorado Green Business Network.
