Jefferson County Parks and Open Space
Jefferson County Parks & Open Space protects more than 56,000 acres of Front Range landscapes, from foothill forests to grassland preserves. Their system of parks and trails is managed with a focus on long-term ecological health and public access. Through research, restoration, and community engagement, the organization maintains one of Colorado’s most active and resilient open-space networks while working to preserve natural and cultural resources and provide responsible outdoor recreation and community stewardship opportunities.
Programs
JeffCo’s core programs focus on land management, habitat monitoring, restoration, and community education. Seasonal initiatives support wildfire mitigation, trail sustainability, and native species protection. Naturalist-led programs offer hands-on learning for residents, schools, and visitors.
Event Calendar
The department maintains a year-round schedule of guided hikes, restoration days, naturalist talks, and volunteer trainings. Events follow ecological seasons—such as spring trail prep, summer wildlife monitoring, and fall conservation work.
Conservation
Conservation work centers on ecosystem restoration, invasive species removal, wildlife surveys, and erosion control across high-use trail corridors. The team collaborates with scientists and partner agencies to monitor habitat health and plan long-term protection strategies.
How to Help:
Donatations
Financial contributions strengthen on-the-ground conservation efforts, from trail tools and restoration materials to naturalist programming and monitoring equipment. Donations support both immediate field needs and the broader long-term stewardship of JeffCo’s open-space system.
Volunteer
Volunteer opportunities range from one-time workdays to ongoing stewardship roles:
One-Day Projects Join publicly scheduled workdays focused on trail maintenance, forest stewardship, invasive weed removal, and park cleanups. These events are open to all ages and experience levels.
Group Projects Custom field projects can be created for corporate teams, community groups, schools, and youth organizations. Activities build teamwork while supporting stewardship across JeffCo’s parks and open spaces.
