Spirit of the Sun

Spirit of the Sun, Inc. is an incorporated 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the state of Colorado. For over a decade, we have partnered with Native American communities across the nation to develop new opportunities for tribes and Native American individuals. Spirit of the Sun is founded on the belief that effective and sustainable development work recognizes the intersections of culture, community, economy, and health, and that true success is only possible through collaboration. We maintain open and ongoing dialogues with all of our partners to ensure that every project or initiative reflects the unique needs and goals of the Native communities we serve. We reside on the land of the Tséstho’e (Cheyenne), hinono’eino’ biito’owu’ (Arapaho), Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱ (Ute), and Očhéthi Šakówiŋ, as well as 48+ other tribes with ties to this land.

Our Programs

Community is the root of all of the work we do at Spirit of the Sun. With this intention, we offer so many programs to meet the various needs of our community, and to ensure that there are offerings as diverse and complex as the people we serve.

Pursuing Justice At Spirit of the Sun we have a commitment to pursuing justice in all of its forms. We see liberation work as both communal and intersectional, and as such, we are committed to working towards dismantling the systems of oppression and inequity within our communities through all the work that we do.

Get Involved

Volunteer We are always looking for extra loving hands to help with sorting and deliveries to our Native elders and others in need at our food shares on Fridays. Our biggest need is for deliveries! Volunteers must be 18+ - thank you, ahe’hee!

Donate Your donation would go towards helping us purchase our own land to grow our traditional foodways and raise Bison in alignment with our own cultural practices.

Renaming efforts Renaming our community sites is very important to our Indigenous communities. By removing names associated with genocide and the colonization of our peoples, we are reclaiming a portion of our cultural histories and restoring environments of healing, strength and renewal for our people.
