Great Sand Dunes Visitor Center

The visitor center is open daily 9:00 am - 4:30 pm throughout the year, except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.

Rangers are present to assist you with trip planning, Junior Ranger books and badges, directions, and other questions.

Restrooms with flush toilets and a water fill station are available in the visitor center building lobby during open hours.

Exhibits include highlights of the region's historically diverse cultures, a large diorama depicting park and preserve ecosystems, a night sky video and night life of the dunes exhibit, a 3D model of the valley and geology animation, and a sand-wind interactive. A 20-minute park video is also available.

Directions

From CO Highway 160: Between the towns of Alamosa, CO, and Blanca, CO, there will be large brown signs marking the turn off to the park. Turn north on CO State Highway 150. Drive straight (north) for 15 miles to the entrance of the park.

From CO Highway 17: Near the town of Mosca, CO, turn onto County Road Lane 6N. At the end of the road, turn left (north) onto CO State Highway 150. This highway will take you into the national park.
