Four Winds American Indian Council

Four Winds American Indian Council is an American Indian "liberated zone" located in the heart of Denver, Colorado, in the original territories of the Cheyenne, Arapaho and Ute Nations. By "liberated zone" we mean that Four Winds is a facility where indigenous peoples are free to use the buildings for Native empowerment, without apology or explanation to the settler society that now surrounds us.

We work for the physical, spiritual, political, community, economic, and social liberation of all Indigenous Peoples and lands. Our goal is to create a strong, healthy, unified, and self-determining Native American community in Denver.

Our Work

**Survival Program ** The main form of assistance we provide is street survival kits. Our Survival Kits consist of a variety of gear and supplies that are essential to outdoor urban survival in the Denver Metro Area.

In addition, through a unique partnership with GiveCard, we operate a Liberated Community Bank that provides monthly cash disbursements to a limited number of community members who have recently gotten into permanent housing or who are living in transitional housing, shelters/Safe Outdoor Spaces, or are otherwise living inside.

Cultural Connections We host a variety of events and activities focused on reconnecting our community members to each other and our cultural practices. Be sure to follow us on social media and sign up for our newsletter to find out about upcoming events!

Activism & Advocacy Four Winds has been the base of operations for a variety of grassroots struggles, organizations, and coalitions; and a catalyst to broader grassroots movements, including the movement to end Columbus Day in Colorado.

One of the foundations of Four Winds’ approach to working with our community is the understanding that providing services is merely a safety net activity. Ultimately, it does not empower or liberate. We balance our approach to community support with a strong focus on community organizing, activism, and advocacy.
