Chautauqua

The Colorado Chautauqua is considered THE western representation of the “chautauqua movement” that swept the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is the only chautauqua west of the Mississippi that has continuously operated with its original structures intact, largely used for their original purposes.

Located at the base of the Flatirons, the Colorado Chautauqua is one of only 28 National Historic Landmarks in the state of Colorado and one of the few remaining chautauquas in the United States. Now in its second century, the Colorado Chautauqua attracts over one million visitors each year while remaining committed to its historic purpose.

We offer outstanding musical, arts and educational programs, charming accommodations in our historic cottages and lodges, indoor and outdoor meeting space, wedding and celebration venues, coffee, ice cream and shopping at our very own General Store, fine dining at the historic Dining Hall, and direct access to 40 miles of trails and thousands of acres of open space.

Lodging

Chautauqua’s charming collection of historic cottages and lodges are nestled beneath the iconic Boulder Flatirons. The cottages were constructed between 1899 and 1954 to replace the tents used during Chautauqua’s first summer season. Chautauqua is one of only two National Historic Landmarks in Colorado that offer public lodging. We do our best to help you relax and unplug with no tempting TVs or phones, but for guests needing to stay connected, complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the park. Meanwhile, enjoy the great outdoors with front door access to over 40 miles of open space hiking trails or take in the sunrise and sunset from your porch. Just a 15-minute drive or leisurely walk to the renowned Pearl Street Mall and University of Colorado campus, the Colorado Chautauqua offers year-round cultural programming, a full-service Dining Hall, and a charming General Store where you can pick up a hot coffee, ice cream, and gifts.

Events

Built in 1898 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, the Auditorium’s lofty, open architecture is from another era and the incredible acoustics keep the music real. In Colorado’s chillier months, you will find concerts, speakers, and panels in the intimate setting of our 1918 Community House.
