Boulder Reservoir
The Boulder Reservoir is a 700-acre, multi-use recreation and water-storage facility, owned and managed by the City of Boulder and operated as a water supply by the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District. It is used for recreation, drinking water and irrigation. Popular recreation activities at the reservoir include boating, swimming, sun bathing, water skiing, fishing, picnicking, walking, running, cycling and wildlife viewing.
Things to Do
Swim and Beach Build a sandcastle or go for a swim! Swim Beach hours and information. Swim area hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily (with early closure at 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays). Swimming is only permitted in the designated swim area while a lifeguard is on duty. No swimming unless lifeguards are present and on duty. For more safety information, visit City of Boulder.
Kayak or Paddleboard Rent a stand-up paddleboard, or single or double-person kayak from Rocky Mountain Paddleboard and check out the lake.
Fishing There are lots of great fishing spots around the reservoir. You must have a current fishing license and follow all rules from Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

Permits Required All watercraft, including motor- and human-powered inflatable and hard, are required to have a current City of Boulder, Boulder Reservoir watercraft permit. Watercraft includes stand up paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, inflatable rafts, power boats, sail boats, kite boards, windsurfers etc. No unpermitted craft are allowed to enter the facility. 2025 Boat Permit Information.
