This Is Our Fernie explores the legend of a curse, fires that razzed the town to the ground, and mining disasters that cut like a knife through the community. This main floor exhibit includes the interactive Fernie Faces audio/visual programs to explore history through the eyes of early residents, a mine tunnel and Discovery Drawers for the little ones to peek into, and a timeline, which spans an entire wall, that documents Fernie’s evolution from coal mining settlement to vibrant, multi-industry, lifestyle-focused community.

The Fernie Museum Gallery, located on the second floor, features local and touring historical exhibits as well as solo and group exhibitions by local, regional, and national artists. Gallery programming aims to promote professionalism and foster appreciation for arts and culture and bring awareness to the museum’s wealth of archival and artifact material. Exhibits relate directly to the Fernie & District Historical Society’s mandate - to actively promote knowledge, appreciation and understanding of the history of Fernie and region.
