Columbia Wetlands Outpost

Start your adventure at the gorgeous interpretive center/office perched above the valley floor before being transported to a private parking area on shores of the mighty Columbia River. Staff will share their incredible love of the Columbia Valley and provide you with an introduction of the landscape and safety advice before you head out on your days adventures. Once you are secure in your life vests you will follow a boardwalk trail making your way to the wetlands. One of our favorite parts of the trek to the boat dock was the suspension bridge and a chance to see the plethora of animals that call the wetlands their home. From the dock complete with tables, chairs, and sunbathing lounge chairs you will step aboard an option of canoe, kayak, stand up paddleboard, pedal boats, e-canoe, or the big red canoe (Voyaguer) for a full or half-day self-guided float.

Self-propelled watercrafts allow 360 degree wildlife viewing and bird watching. These quiet recreation options allows guests to hear the sounds of the birds and wildlife filling the wetlands. It is family friendly and a great chance to meet other explorers on this memorable wilderness adventure. If you are the ultimate birder plan your trip during the great migration, as the wetlands are situated on the Pacific flyway.

This is an ideal day trip to add to your exploration of the Rockies and Banff and Lake Louise area.

Self-Guided Paddling

Self Guided Tours are a great option for those that have their own watercrafts, want to try a new mode of water transportation, or would prefer to explore the wetlands at their own pace. See below for available rentals and services. Detailed maps will be made available to you, so you can customize your half-day or full-day trip. This option can be appropriate for all ages.

You can expect to have plenty of bird watching and wildlife sightings on the river and within the wetlands. Eagles, osprey, herons, beavers, otters, deer and bears are among the 350 species of birds and mammals that call the Columbia River Valley home. Columbia Wetlands are home to the second-largest colony of Blue Herons in Western Canada.
