St. George Episcopal Mission
St. George Episcopal Mission, founded in 1882 during Leadville's mining boom, has stood as a pillar of hope and unity for over a century. When the Climax Mine closed in 1992, leaving thousands unemployed, St.

George volunteers launched a community meal program fueled by donated pantry items. What began as a simple act of kindness grew into a vital lifeline for those struggling to make ends meet. Over three decades, this effort blossomed into a robust Community Meal and Pantry program—serving hot lunches four days a week and providing pantry access three days a week.

The organization remains committed to being more than a building: a lifeline, a sanctuary, and an unwavering community hub dedicated to nurturing hope, connection, and strength. The Food Security programs strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone can access fresh and healthy food, regardless of their circumstances, while fostering a sense of belonging and empowering community members to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
