At age 17, Alfred Eames traveled to Spain's Rioja region, where he was immersed in traditional European winemaking, shaping his lifelong love for wine. In the mid-1980s, he discovered the West Elk Mountains of Colorado and came to believe they hold the potential to produce wines rivaling the world's most celebrated regions. Named for its founder, Alfred Eames Cellars adapts and joins old world methods with the rugged terroir of the West Elks to create bold wines with depth and sense of place.

Every bottle is a testament to patience, precision, and the land itself. Located at 6,000 feet among the highest vineyards in North America, the winery benefits from mineral-rich alluvial and volcanic soils and 300+ days of sunshine per year. The philosophy is simple: less intervention, more expression.

Great wine is grown, not manufactured. Hand-picked at dawn when acidity and sugar are perfectly balanced, wines are fermented in masonry open vats, aged 16-20 months in French oak, then bottled unfined and unfiltered. Each vintage is released only when ready.

Today the legacy is carried on by Alfred's son, Devin Eames. While the winery itself is a working farm and home visited by appointment or during scheduled events, Alfred Eames Cellars partners with ZenZen Gardens as the official tasting room, where guests experience a beautiful garden setting and tailored immersive wine tastings daily from May through November.
