Cara Lodge

Originally built in the 1840s as two grand colonial homes, the property has a storied past. It once housed Georgetown’s first Lord Mayor and has welcomed an illustrious list of guests over the years, including King Edward VIII in 1923 before his historic abdication, President Jimmy Carter in 1996, HRH Prince Charles in 2000, HRH Prince Andrew in 2004, and Mick Jagger in 2005.

Today, Cara Lodge blends timeless elegance with modern-day comfort. It’s a place where creaking floorboards meet contemporary convenience, and where the warmth of family-style hospitality makes every guest feel at home. As a heritage building, please note: we do not have elevator access.

In 2025, Cara Lodge was proudly named Hotel of the Year by the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG), our third win in just five years. This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to service, heritage, and the uniquely Guyanese experience we provide.

Whether you're drawn by history or here on business, you’ll find a stay at Cara Lodge to be as memorable as it is comfortable.

Accomodation

At Cara Lodge, our rooms offer a choice of one queen bed, one king bed, or two full-size beds, each thoughtfully refurbished at the end of 2019. The rooms feature locally made furniture crafted from Kufa, a woody rainforest vine that clings to the towering tree canopies with its roots and offshoots cascading to the forest floor. This choice of material is not only environmentally friendly but also sustainable.

In line with our commitment to national sustainable development goals, we utilize a solar-powered hot water system. Additionally, 25% of our electricity comes directly from solar energy during daylight hours, further reducing our carbon footprint.

Each room opens onto ornate wooden verandahs that overlook either the lush gardens or the charming patio, offering the perfect setting to immerse yourself in the history and heritage of Cara Lodge.
