Corcovado Foundation
The Corcovado Foundation is a non-profit organization and a leader in conservation in Costa Rica. We work with people to protect our natural resources. Our conservation programs are based in the South Pacific region of Costa Rica, known as the Osa Peninsula, which is famous for its intense biodiversity and unspoiled nature. We are part of a great network that is trying to make this world a better place, for all of us and for the rest of the creatures that live with us.
At our organization, we use education as a tool to engage and empower local communities in sustainable practices. Through educating children on the importance of protecting the biodiverse land they inhabit, supporting sustainable tourism for local businesses, and partnering with land owners and stewards on sustainable land management practices, such as riparian vegetation, regenerative agriculture and reforestation, we strive to promote harmony between people and nature.
Our focus is local, but our impact is global.
We strive to protect Costa Rica’s natural heritage for future generations, through its sustainable development, by promoting education and community empowerment, the strengthening of protected wildlife areas and the promotion of tourism.
Our Programs
Environmental Education We organize workshops, camps, walks, and exchanges of experiences. We also give talks, create and support festivals, and many other activities to promote our message. We also encourage actions to develop good relationships and capacities for community participation in conserving natural resources and environmental quality.
Sustainable Tourism We collaborate in the training of the community members and local companies on best practices for sustainable tourism. We support these community enterprises, which protect natural habitats, employ local people, and preserve the rural heritage of Costa Rica.
Support National Parks From 2001 until 2021, we have raised funds to invest in more than 100 projects, for a variety of conservation efforts to protect the fragile ecosystems of Costa Rica. We built 5 ranger stations, hired and trained officials, acquired equipment and developed more than two dozen general and specific plans for national parks.
Sea Turtle Conservation Since 2006, we have been working with biologists, local and international volunteers to protect and relocate sea turtle nests in four beach sites: Progreso, Rincon, Rio Oro and Playa Hermosa – Punta Mala Wildlife Refuge.
