Café Rojo
Café Rojo, a restaurant and café, is located in a century-old house in the historic center of San José, right in the emblematic Amón neighborhood. We are a safe space, free from harassment and discrimination, with a cultural agenda of exhibitions and activities.
We offer a simple, tasty, and healthy culinary experience; inclusive for vegans or those on a gluten-free diet. Our dishes are inspired by the tropical flavors of Vietnamese and Costa Rican cuisine and are made with fresh produce, mostly from small, local producers.
We offer a selection of beverages and coffees with flavors and preparations made by us, as well as our selection of vegan and non-vegan desserts and pastries. We also have a menu of original cocktails and wines to pair with your dishes.
Casa Pagés
While symmetry is rare in Victorian architecture, the Casa Pagés where we are located, built in the early 20th century, displays this characteristic along with others typical of that aesthetic prevalent in the Amón neighborhood.
Thus, for example, the Victorian designs are characteristic of the front wall and railing, as is the front corridor with its decorated columns and corbels, where the entrance is marked by the central body of the second level.
This is a pure volume, with a double window of arches and wooden corbels supporting the eaves with valances, before giving way to the gable decorated with moldings, a skylight that provides ventilation to the attic, and, pointing skyward, a wrought iron cresting of a whimsical design.
About Us
We are a family restaurant with a small team, which allows us to give special attention to each and every person who walks through our doors.
We began this adventure in 2014 and since then, we have been open every day, convinced of our desire to offer an honest, warm, healthy, and flavorful experience.
Our motto remains to offer an urban experience of tropical gastronomy that is healthy, fresh, and accessible, within the framework of the cultural and artistic life, as well as the use and preservation of the architectural heritage of the city of San José.
