Bus Itinerary [Costa Rica Tourism Board]
There are different bus terminals in San José and in the main cities. In some cities you will find local bus terminals. In this document you will find the following information:
- The name of the arrival city.
- The city and the departure terminal.
- The name of the company, address and telephone number of the transportation company.
- Service frequency.
- Departure schedule.
- Return schedule.
- Travel time and distance in kilometers.
- Service rate is not included, you should check with the bus company.
- Itineraries may chance without previous notice.
- Destinations within the cities are not included.
- The ferry or boat schedules, and Central American bus service are included here.

• Always keep an eye on your luggage, specially in crowded areas and corners. Try to keep small bags close to you when inside the bus. • Do not ignore suspicious people on bus, be careful. • It’s best to pay for public bus tickets in colones. Watch your money carefully in public areas. • Keep your passport in a safe place. You will need it in bank transactions o migratory inspections. • Be alert of your surroundings. • If you get lost, look for a public place to ask for information. • In case of emergency or assistance call 9-1-1. • Report any robbery or assault to the nearest police station, or call 9-1-1. • If you have any complaint about tourist services write to quejas@ict.go.cr, or contact our offices to the phone: 2299-5800. How to use this bus schedule
• Please read the safety recommendations. • There are different bus terminals at each province. • This bus itinarary is organized by province, on each page of the bus schedule, you will see 6 columns of information that are outlined in the following manner:
- The name of the arrival city.
- The city and the departure terminal for your destination, with the address and the name of the transportation company.
- Service frequency.
- Departure schedule.
- Return schedule from different locations.
- Travel time and distance in km. • Service rate is not included. • Itineraries may change without prior notice. Verify connections once you arrive to your destination and space availability. Or call the company to verify the information. • Destinations within the city are not included. • Buses are available during 365 days a year, however during Easter week, Holidays and weekends, the frequency can be reduced. • Buses are identified with the name of the destination, not by route number. • The ferry and boat schedule, local train and Central American bus service is included here, and some other information. • A list of the most important bus connections within the main cities is included.
