Nomad Lodges
Nomad Lodges offers an alternative in Equitable Tourism designed to contribute and raise awareness in the conservation of the Amazonian forest and its inhabitants.
The strategic location of Nomad Lodges Amazonas, at the centre of the Amazon and bordering three countries makes it the cradle of a new concept in ecotourism.
All effort being exerted is to promote ecotourism in the Amazon region, both nationally and internationally.
The Concept
Sustainable Structure
Each lodge is powered using locally produced alternative sources of energy avoiding the need for externally produced fuel to be brought to the area. Most of the food and drinks consumed in each lodge are locally sourced.
Having visited more than 300 lodges in South America to evaluate the advantages and inconveniences, it seemed clear that the Nomad Lodges Amazonas project is a model for what ecotourism should be: clear and simple, based on service quality, conservation of the natural reserves, teaching and respecting the local population.
Ephemeral Structure
The planned infrastructure for the various projects is constructed using mainly local materials for minimal impact on the environment. The system allows rapid and easy dismantling of the entire infrastructure leaving the area exactly as it was found.
The Layout
The Nomad Lodges are located a 96-hectare plot near the Amacayacu National Park, which comprises 639 meters of riverbank and 1500 meters inside the forest. Instead of designing a resort-like concept, along the water, we have developed a structure that finds its roots on deep inside the land and extends to the water. The complex has been thought to encompass three different areas:
The first area is made of traditional constructions and is the first point of contacts with locals. It is where food and goods arrive, which would later used in other parts of the resort.
The second area is located inside the secondary forest and hosts the employees in their respective rooms (up to 20), and common area. The architecture here is more contemporary.
Finally, the third area is comprised of bungalow whose legs are half on the shore, half immersed in the water. A floating harbor is available for guests to hop onto Nomad Lodges’ boats for expeditions. Common spaces have been designed to contribute to a lively and warm atmosphere.

The Community
Guardians of the Forest
The Amazon rainforest not only hosts an incredible diverse natural & animal ecosystem but also hundreds of local tribes, living in perfect harmony with their environment. It is not surprising that they have earned the title of “Guardian of the Forest”.
A deep socio-cultural implication with the local communities is one of the key pillars at Nomad Lodges and we are striving to involve them in our project and to improve their quality of life.
Aticoya Indigenous Communities
Aticoya means Association of Ticunas, Cocamas and Yaguas, which are the three tribes living in this region. The twenty-two local indigenous communities including 5700 inhabitants belonging to 800 families. 1700 of them are children under 5 years of age.
With more than a third of local inhabitants being children, our project was naturally oriented towards younger generations from its roots. In fact, our communities’ children and our own children will be the ones able to make a change and help Nomad Lodges to grow and achieve our environmental impact. With the rise of generations Y & Z and growing understanding and concerns about sustainability, Nomad Lodges aims at positioning itself as an exemplary role model in terms of sustainable tourism.
Flora and Fauna
One of the world’s largest density and diversity of animals species and plants is located in the Amazon region. Our goal is to honor the natural riches around us and to provide the most immersive experience for our guests.
The Amazon project, an emblematic image for our concept, is housed within 500,000 hectares of the Colombian Amazon, bordering Brazil and Peru, of which 300,000 hectares are National Park territory and 200,000 are Indigenous Reservations. This area is rich in biodiversity and home to 500 bird species, 150 species of mammals and 1000 species of plants among others. Guests are situated in the middle of this ecosystem and have ample opportunity to encounter multiple amazing species every day.
