Reef Rescue Network
The Reef Rescue Network offers immersive, conservation-focused experiences in The Bahamas that allow travelers to actively participate in protecting and restoring the region’s vibrant coral reefs. Whether diving, snorkeling, or earning a PADI specialty certification, participants gain hands-on experience in marine restoration while exploring some of the most beautiful and biodiverse underwater ecosystems in the Caribbean. These programs blend adventure with education, making them ideal for eco-conscious travelers eager to make a meaningful impact.
Dive Experience Delve into the heart of coral restoration with a guided dive at one of the Reef Rescue Network’s coral nurseries. Under expert supervision, you’ll learn hands-on nursery maintenance. This immersive activity not only connects you with the underwater ecosystem but also contributes to real conservation efforts.
Snorkel Experience For those who prefer staying closer to the surface, the snorkel experience offers guided tours through coral nurseries or artificial reefs. You’ll master basic freediving or snorkeling techniques, assist in restoration activities, and witness how these nurseries serve as vital habitats for marine wildlife.
PADI Specialty Courses The Reef Rescue Network also offers PADI Specialty Courses including the Reef Rescue Diver Specialty course, the Shark Conservation & Reef Rescue Diver course, and the Sea Turtle Awareness & Reef Rescue course.
The dive and snorkel experiences each last roughly 2 hours per session, whereas the PADI Specialty Courses are multi-dive programs that usually spread across 1 to 2 days. Participants have the opportunity to visit coral nurseries, outplanting reefs, and artificial reefs depending on which island they are staying on.
-
Accessibility: Most experiences are offered through partner dive resorts and operations across multiple islands. No advanced certifications required for snorkel and introductory dive activities. PADI courses require Open Water certification.
-
Cancellation Policy: The cancellation policy will be dependent on the dive shop that you are booking through when doing Reef Rescue Network experiences. You can expect a policy similar to: full refund if cancelled more than 48 hours in advance; 50% refund for 24 to 48 hours in advance; no refund within 24 hours of booking or for no-shows. Make sure to check your dive shop’s cancellation policy as it might be different.
-
Other logistics: Gear for snorkeling and diving is usually provided by the dive shop. Age limits and prerequisites vary by activity—PADI certifications require prior training. Local partners may offer combined packages (e.g., Reef Rescue Diver + Shark Conservation or Sea Turtle Awareness). Proceeds support coral restoration at scale—Reef Rescue Network oversees 50 nurseries and has planted over 10,000 corals.
These experiences offer an unparalleled opportunity to engage directly in marine conservation. Whether snorkeling above greenhouse-like nurseries, earning PADI specialty course certifications through hands-on coral reef work, or connecting with sharks and turtles in their natural habitats. It’s a journey that educates, empowers, and leaves a lasting impact—both underwater and above.
