Galt Museum & Archives

In the new 5000 square foot Discovery Hall kids of all ages are immersed in the history of Southwestern Alberta with our permanent hands-on exhibits.

Experience the culture of the Kainai people. Take a virtual plane ride over the undulating prairie landscape. Duck under a giant replica of Lethbridge’s famous High Level Bridge. Dig for information on the local coal mining industry. Kick up your heels and discover the giant cowboy boot.

A new exhibit in the Kainai Arbour explores the Blackfoot people’s vast knowledge of indigenous plants and their healing properties, which were traditionally passed down orally from elder to child.

Using modern technologies, the Kainai community brought time-honoured ways of knowing back into the world for the benefit of their youth and us all. Kainai students went out on the land with elders, teachers and community members to digitally collect stories and take photographs.

A selection of the photos are now displayed in the Kainai Arbour in the Discovery Hall, along with a computer kiosk with access to the comprehensive website Nitsitapiisinni: Stories and Spaces featuring stories, photos, resource listings, educational links and more.
